Bungadyo ( Rato Machhindranath )

Bungadyo ( Rato Machhindranath ) is a Hindu Buddhist worshiped god. Bugadyo is also known as Karname in local language. Local communicate saying Karname as hello. Bungadyo is a longest festival worshiped in Kathmandu Lalitpur, Nepal.

Bungadyo chariot start pulling around Patan city in Baishakh month of Nepal. A day stops in a fixed area to worship ( Bhujya ) by local people. Next day it pulls in next location. That is how it pulls all around Patan area.

In the festival local music band (Dheme Baja), Gurju Paltan (Gorkha Paltan) and local club participates. All festival arranges by local community.

Chovadyo ( Sano Machhindranath ) chariot also pulls along with Bungadyo. Mostly children involves in pulling Chovadyo. But the building of both chariot is different. Both chariot layered with green grass around it. You will find Nepal flag, Buddhist flag in top of the chariot.

Some accidents also occur during the pulling time. Because the chariot is so heavy to stop instantly, better not to go front of chariot during pulling time. And you will find thousand of participates and viewers coming to see the festival around the town.

This festival is usually celebrates by local Jyapu society and nowadays all Newari celebrates the festival. Jyapu must make some ceremony (musical) during Bhujya day. They group in each society and worships Bungadyo by playing flute like music.

The Bungadyo chariot festival ends after about 1.5 month worshiping by Nepal most respected personal (King or President) as Jawalajatra at Jawalakhel. Then after the chariot will deconstructed and Bungadyo will stay in a Bahal temple in Bungamati for six month and about five month in Tangal Ta Bahal.
